Happy Father’s Day from Peru!!! And special wishes to our dads—Curt Sr., Eric, John D., John B, Harry T., Curt Jr, and Bill Reigle.
What an awesome day! We started by worshiping with fellow Christians in a Spanish speaking church—and although we could understand little—we were blessed by smiles, hand shakes, beautiful music and prayer. It was a privilege to worship alongside our Peruvian brothers and sisters in Christ.
On the way to visit San Ricardo, we enjoyed a bountiful lunch buffet featuring a wide variety of local specialties—it was a treat, even though most of us passed on the dishes with fried chicken blood and beef intestines.
San Ricardo (from Rhonda’s rookie perspective) - there are no words to describe what I saw here today. The faces of these 100+ precious children lit up when our bus pulled in. They crowded around greeting us with smiles and hugs…many remembering some of the group from last year, calling out “Maggie, Maggie”…amazing. But we were told today that the Sunrise CRC team is the only group that spends a whole week with these kids during the year, and they look forward to our visit.
(From Kay)—I was totally humbled when the kids greeted me with hugs and kisses—just like we greet our families. The highlight for me today was when 13 year old Jose tried to teach me Spanish—he was my constant companion the rest of the afternoon. A perfect way to warm a grandma’s heart.
Ironically, we had a Chinese dinner tonight on the ocean front—delicious!!! We ended our second day with devotions, sharing, prayer (and lots of laughs).
We would appreciate your prayers for Francisco Javier—a two month old baby boy at Reina de la Paz who doesn’t appear to be thriving. He’s gained only a couple of pounds since birth and according to his mother he doesn’t take food well.
Thanks for your support and prayers. We are encouraged by all your posts on the blog. Keep in touch. Until tomorrow…….
Ok, so now your posts are really melting my heart. I'm so thankful to God for the great days and experiences He is giving to you. What a blessing all of you are to the kids at San Ricardo; Rhonda & Kay, you've captured it beautifully. It's cool to read / see what God is doing in all of you, as well! We will pray for Francisco. Know that there are MANY who are praying for you and that God is with you. You are the hands and feet of Jesus. Love it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the blog. (ps. love you Sue, Em, & Mags - miss you but all's well: the Fletch is here; no canoe trip [hi water]; kids have not yet revolted - jajaja! :-)
Mom,
ReplyDeleteUncle Gib will have surgery this week, if he doesn't have the surgery he will be in a wheelchair soon, the surgery should keep that from happening. There is only a 20% chance that the surgery will lessen the pain, so it's not all good news. Dad sends his love and is sort of figuring the computer out. Love Curt
Lori and Heather,
ReplyDeleteHope things are going well. Miss you (and Penelope too). Praying for you and hope you have a great day. Oh, and Mark that girl sure was enjoying that piggyback ride. God bless you all. Love, Curt
Thank you, Rhonda and Kay, for sharing your perspectives on arriving at San Ricardo! It is so wonderful to hear that the kids look forward to the Sunrise Mission Team spending time with them and that they remember those who have visited before! You are all in our prayers! And please give little Jose a hug for me!! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat great pictures! And you're doing a great job keeping us connected with the blog. We're praying for each of you, especially as you begin this week of activities and as you share God's Word.
ReplyDeleteAnd how do you rate? They didn't offer ME fried chicken blood when I was there!
Pastor Bob
